Destiny's Edge is a science-fiction universe revolving around numerous hostile extraterrestrial species taking a sudden interest in Earth for reasons unknown. The Destiny's Edge Ennealogy focuses on the story of Scott Remington, a young soldier who follows a calling to enlist with the Earth Defense Network, the global military organization formed to repel the intruders. At its heart, the Ennealogy is a story of faith, loss, and the search for hope amid overwhelming circumstances.
Beginning with Dawn of Destiny, the Ennealogy is the core series of Destiny's Edge, comprised of nine novels that tell the full story of Scott Remington and his role in the Alien War.
Destiny's Edge is a vast universe. There are plenty of other stories that are worth being told beyond the core series. Be they standalone works or parts of their own series, each will exist as canon inside the Destiny's Edge Universe.
Destiny's Edge originated as Epic, the first installment of which, Dawn of Destiny, was released in 2006.
Though numerous factors went into the decision to rebrand and relaunch, chief among them was the opportunity to apply decades' worth of writing experience to the earlier installments of series. This would allow Dawn of Destiny and its follow-up, Outlaw Trigger, to exist at a quality level more on par with later installments. As far as the new series name, Destiny's Edge presents a far more accurate portrayal of the heart of the series than Epic.
This is neither a reboot or a retcon. It is more a fleshing out and an application of writing experience. Though several aspects of the earlier installments of Epic have changed, none are significant enough to alter the main storyline.
Though we hope that existing fans of Epic decide to experience Destiny's Edge in full, it is not necessary to purchase a new set of books. Though some characters and scenes have been altered, none are significant enough to impact the main storyline in a meaningful way. With that stated, the relaunched books will constitute the new, official canon of the series.
Epic and Destiny's Edge were created by Lee Stephen.
One of the many factors that went into relaunching Epic as Destiny's Edge was the opportunity to create an environment favorable to contributions from other writers. There are plenty of stories to tell in the Destiny's Edge Universe. They shouldn't all have to come from the same point of view.
It is a common misconception that Epic is Christian science-fiction. Though the Ennealogy is written from a Christian perspective through the eyes of a character of faith, Christianity itself does not exist in the Destiny's Edge Universe. This has always been out of respect for the Christian faith (and other faiths), and not adversely to it.
The Epic series was written with parents in mind, and this has not changed with Destiny's Edge. There is no profanity beyond the rare, "damn," nor is there sexual content. The idea has always been to create a series parents can let their kids read without worrying about what they'll find when they turn the page. With that said, this is a story about adults in adult situations, ranging from warfare, to violence, to betrayal, to temptation, and more. Life is messy; this series pulls no punches.
Judging by TV Parental Guideline standards, Destiny's Edge would be rated TV-14.
